This Holy Man wore a grim face ravaged with the scars of small pox. The demand is not for inclusion within the fold of “universal humankind” on the basis of shared human attributes; nor is it for respect “in spite of” one's differences. Sadly, many African-American historians who have only these European sources to infer history from have taken these second-hand guilt-massaging accounts as gospel. This is a very entertaining read with an intelligent, spunky protagonist, family humor, sibling rivalry, and good science.
